Using the proceeds from the sale of a small landscaping business Todd followed the calling of his passion, finance, and launched his practice in 1995. After learning the financial services business from the ground up he reached out to very people he had worked with before as an entrepreneur: business owners in construction. It was a natural fit. Up and about by 5.00 am on most days, Todd drives his truck to visit clients at construction sites throughout New York and New England by 6.00 am. “I have always been more comfortable in a more casual work environment,” he says. “I’m most in my element when I am meeting with people in the field. This is how my practice has grown—one relationship at a time.”

Over the years Todd has developed a thriving practice helping his clients define and achieve the independence they seek in their lives. Todd understands the needs of the construction industry, and he appreciates a culture that conducts business with an honest handshake.

Growing up in Albany, NY, it was Jim's dream to play professional baseball. A dedicated athlete, Jim entered Manhattan College on a baseball scholarship, and left with a degree in Business Administration.

Jim's competitive streak, honed by a lifetime of sports, had found a new focus: the financial services industry. His career took him from Northwestern to Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company, and eventually to personal practice in 2002, which allowed him to build his own game plan. "I love the idea of building something from the ground up, whether in work or sports. I like the idea of starting a project to achieve a goal."

In 2008, Jim began to focus on servicing the construction industry. For Jim, it was a natural market, as he has both family and close friends in the field. From there, working with Todd McDonald, who he's known for over a decade, was an easy decision. Jim’s straight shooter style serves his clients well. “If I say something, that’s how it is. I feel that’s the way the construction industry works, too.”

Jim lives in Saratoga Springs, NY, with his wife Kristen and their three children.

The newest addition to Broadstone Advisors, Kyle Sumple graduated from Siena College with a degree in Finance. Kyle is no stranger to Broadstone Advisors. He interned with the firm in his senior year of college, and enjoyed his position so much that he sought to stay. The feeling was mutual, and in 2011 Kyle passed all the necessary examinations to offer insurance products and related financial services.

Kyle, who attended Siena on a baseball scholarship, brings an athlete's discipline and a winning spirit to Broadstone Advisors team. He recognizes that it takes hard work and a commitment to service to earn the trust of clients. Kyle finds that the lessons he learned on the field translate well into his new role as a financial services professional; the discipline, teamwork, and time management skills he developed over the years now serve him well as a member of the Broadstone Advisors team.

"Every client is so different, and even though many of the businesses we work with operate within the construction industry, no two have the same story," Kyle says. "It keeps my days very interesting!"

Outside of work, Kyle enjoys playing golf, basketball, or just about any sport. He also likes to relax by spending time with his friends and family.

Robin's interest in personal finance dates back to 1999, when she started studying investment strategy to better understand her own investments. "Books weren't providing the kind of information that hands-on conversations could," she says, adding that her conversations with advisors and financial-savvy friends were truly fascinating. After seeing an advertisement for a financial services support position, Robin expanded on her personal interest and began her career in the industry. Today, Robin has more than a decade of experience.

As administrative assistant, Robin ensures the smooth operations of the back office, and assists with the administration of our clients' 401(k) plans, annuities, insurance policies and investments accounts. The skills she draws upon most at Broadstone Advisors are those she developed as an independent business owner for over twenty years. She credits her customer service expertise for her ability to ask the right questions of her clients and work efficiently under pressure. Given that many of Broadstone Advisor’s clients are business owners, Robin’s personal experience allows her to relate to their specific concerns and needs.

Robin has two adult daughters and a grandson. She currently resides in Raymertown, NY.
